People have broken through, for shore. Maybe at the high end of art, grayson perry is all they need to show how open the art world is.

From where i sit as a perennially emerging artist, It seems that the barriers are so hard to cross. On a bad day, totally impossible. The barriers to success in fine art stars with something very practical. The number one barrier for artist from working class backgrounds having success in the art world is money. At every step we pay, pay to have your work looked at as a thumbnail on a scream to be considered for an exhibition that might bring exposure to your work. £30, gone, money for food , heating, rent, from that budget. that money will then make a prize fund that an already successful artist will win. Not selected...AGAIN. Its not just the disappointment that is bothering you, Its the cost. Best case scenario, Ya, You have been shortlisted. you might now be asked to transport art to london, Edenborough or lands end. Its a big one some maybe you will want to buy it a frame. More money. Lets hope it gets selected because now you have spent £200 to get your work seen. So what if it is selected. Hmm, I have honestly never got that far but opening night, overnight stay, overdraught!
Why does it Matter?
In many ways the Arts is an industry like any other, but what is art for, Its sertaintly outside of just being about profit, Its a deep need within us that we can find evidence of, dating back to the Cave paintings, We use the creation of art as a benchmark for humanity as we know it. The paintings we see from across history create a visual map of things that have been lost in time. It speaks to our emotional self and we can get lost in its beauty or be shocked by an image that arranges the everyday into the most poignant thing you have ever seen. Can all this be captured from only one vantage point. I understand the concept of art as a commodity, that can be an investment because of its potential monetary value and that the main customers for art will be those who have enough money to buy it. But art is more than decoration or investment and great art can come from anywhere and from artists of any social background.
